Here comes a rant.

 You know me, I'm sure...and I'm good at rants. Well, here's another one. If you get offended....I'm not sorry. That's kinda the point.

POP CULTURE:

Why does hollywood have to take everything that is good, and fine in its own little circle, make it popular and destroy it? Leave things well enough alone. Popular culture has already destroyed most good music, and most interesting fashion styles, because people don't want to go near something after "its not cool anymore" so why can't the media just stay the fuck away from things?

Personally, I think we were better off before we became such a media and pop-star driven culture that we would go out and buy whatever the first skinny-as-a-pole-move-and-her-bones-will-break-through-her-skin star is wearing. THINK! How is that going to help you? How is buying whatever the latest popwhore is wearing going to define who YOU are? It's not. Its going to make you look like the people who get paid for being idiots. Cushy job, though, isn't it?

 It irritates me when I see people wearing whatever they are told to wear by the nearest magazine. Or when I see moronic fellow teenagers wearing things that logic would tell them are dumber than shit (AKA: ugg boots) just because "they're popular" or "-insert popwhore here- wears them". That's stupid. Get your own personality. If you actually like the stuff, fine. Don't follow the crowd. Mob mentality is dangerous.

Personally, I think paris hilton and all the popwhores like her are venomous to our society. If we didn't waste all our time focussing on their latest screwups, who they fucked, and what they snorted, then we'd actually be able to focus on bigger issues. There is a world outside of hollywood. There are wars going on in the rest of the world that because we care more about who Britany Spears is screwing that we are completely ignoring. We are going to allow ourselves to be blindsighted by the rest of the world because we are too caught up in what's going on in peoples lives. Who cares what they're doing? Let them be stupid with their money. Focus your attention on the people DYING in Africa...they're much more worth your time than the idiots running around hollywood. We should be doing things to help them, but are we? No, we're glued to our TV sets and popular magazines, reading about who's sleeping with who, or who we think is pregnant. How stupid. How petty.

Get off your asses, stop reading your stupid magazines, and stop paying attention to the popwhores. There is a real world out there that is in trouble. They are much more worthy of your attention.

I usually don't get up on a soapbox and rant like this, but I haven't done it in a while, so I think its okay.

Anyways, I've ranted. I'm done.

Car Wrecks and Boxes...

Had a wreck last week....blah...miss my car too.

Am sore, have whiplash, but I"m finally back at work now, and things are returning back to normal (though, without a car, things aren't quite back to normal).

My social life isn't *quite* as thriving as it was before the wreck, but hey, I've only got two weeks left to pack ayways, so I figure I gotta do it sometime soon anyways...I've still got lots of stuff to go through.

*NOTE TO SELF: Go back and buy DVD-R's.*

Bought Hot Fuzz today...hehe, I had to buy it, I love Simon Pegg.

Work has been so-so, not too eventful, but is it supposed to be?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NEW QUESTION FOR THE PONDERING LIST:
1) On the topic of Salad Dressings, why do we call them French and Italian? Surely there are more sensible names for these...its not like these are the only dressings used in these countries or something like that...or that it has little tiny fragments of the countryside in it, so why not think of a more sensible name?
Yes, this was brought up in a conversation while at work....but still, it's worth pondering, no?
~Moi.
DON'T ASK.
Lenny, you already pretty much know.
Back home, and I miss the view from those hotels...it was goregous. I will have to upload and post pictures.
Oh, and Mez, I have pictures of a shop called "The Art of Shaving" for you. It amused me.
We have about two hours until we leave for the airport... and then four hours on the plane, and then VEGAS.
I will take loads of pictures to decorate my blogs, but, until then, take care my darlings!
New piece of random inspiration:
That's right folks, Sami has inspiration again!
Today, while sitting in wal-mart McDonalds, eating my lunch (i'm poor, okay) My brain got to pondering...and well, I've thought up something that will change the way people think of wal-mart.
Probably not much, but still, it amuses me, so it's going to be my new project.
OPERATION: STOP WAL-MART.
Bwahahahahaha.
And off I toddle to play with my little idea.
Family Heirlooms.
You find the oddest things when going through your family's things...
We were going through my grandparent's house, trying to clear everything out , and I found some interesting things. Ration books, poems, coins, draft cards, military service records...everything that's interesting.
Who knows what we'll find tomorrow.
VEGAS COUNTDOWN: 4 days.
I really need to start packing.
MY FEET ARE DYING.
That's right, I used the capslock of death. My feet haven't hurt this bad in years...six hours straight, on my feet, traying orders, running food, bussing tables...GOD, my feet hurt.
Does anyone have a foot soak thingy? Does anyone know where I can get one?
NEXT PURCHASE:
Dr. Scholls shoe insoles.
Sea Salt.
Big Bowl (to soak feet in).
Ketchup Conundrums and other ponderings...
These are just odd questions that really have no answers that my friends and I were pondering the other day.
1) Why is it called fancy ketchup, and if its *so* fancy, why the hell are they giving it away free in packets?
2) On ketchup again, what is the difference between fancy ketchup and regular ketchup? They taste the same to me...
3)Curtains are supposed to block the view from the outside...and here comes the ponder, why then, do people buy curtains so sheer that you can see through them?
4)If something horrible is apparently supposed to happen if you push/flip the red button/lightswitch then why, may I ask is there even a point of having the thing?
There will be more to come as my brain sinks into the mediocrity of the summer and finds more things to randomly pick and question about.
Like that faulty button on my couch...and the fact that my cd player constantly eats my cds.... *mumbles on quietly*
BORED. I hate being bored.
For the past two days, I have been ill...and now, I'm not, and I'm bored as hell. Brilliant. When stuff was going on, I was too ill to go do it, and now, when I can do stuff, there is nothing to do.
Absolutely fucking wonderful.
Thank you.
Updates on me, and my life (another long entry)
Its been a while since I've updated, so this is probably going to be another ramble.
BEREA Pt2:
Went down to the college for my orientation weekend, two days on campus, with my future classmates. It was a blast. I met so many nice people. Found my roomate, hopefully, Tonya, a fellow pol-sci and most likely gonna be my roomie. We're gonna have fun.
The campus is goregous...we spent so much time walking around campus that weekend, that god, my legs still hurt. Well, some of that may be from working a 12 hour shift. But still. Legs haven't stopped hurting yet.
My advisor helped me figure out the classes I was going to take...even though I think he was trying to push me more into the history and foreign language classes, when I really don't wanna take any of those right now....then when I handed him my schedule he looks at it, goes "that explains a few things" and just laughs. I'm confused. Who knows. It's probably because I put down theatre classes after the classes I needed for my major. I'm sorry, but theatre would be my minor if they allowed it.
WORK:
There was a midnight shift open, and I would've taken it, but damnit, since I'm moving in two months, I can't take it. Oh well. Back to PRN for me. I don't mind it so much, as long as its not one on one. Oh, and the woman that tried to strangle your humble writer? Yea, she's dying. Doesn't that make me feel lovely? Of course.
ROCKY:
Finally made it rocky last week. Since classes are over, I imagine I'll be going a lot more, so that makes it fun. Who knows. I know, this is short, but yea. Rocky = Highlight of my week.
ODD TIDBITS:
My poor house has been filled with the music from "The Scarlet Pimpernel" from the past week...I don't know why. I just feel like listening to it. It's a rather interesting soundtrack. That and Les Mis...those two things have been on rotate on my zen player. I hadn't listened to the soundtrack to Les Mis in a long time. Darn me accidentally finding one of the songs again.
Philip Quast= Love. Phenominal voice.
I passed my Constitutional Law Class! Got a good grade on the last test, and it brought up my final grade phenominally. I need to take a envelope down to the office so I can get it back...I want it back. There are quoteable essays there.
My life...my crazy, crazy life. (LONG ENTRY)
Sometimes, I just wanna sit back, and look at things. Today, is one of those days.
My mother is harping at me right now (like she always does) to get off the computer, but personally, I feel more like making a journal entry. I need to make a journal entry. Great stress relief.
In interests of making things organized, each of my rants will be under subtitles.
BEREA:
Honest to God, I'm counting down the days til I move... (t-minus 11 weeks and counting....) I'm tempted to make a counter, and put it on my signature on all the forums I'm on, just to remind me wherever I go...not much longer until I'm out of here.
God, I can't wait.
I go down to the college again in a week or so to schedule my classes, and see what classes that I've taken will transfer (NOTE TO SELF: GET DARS) and all that jazz...hopefully, it'll all transfer, if not for credit, then at least for elective. I *REALLY* do not want to lose all my political science classes.
POLITICAL SCIENCE:
Last night was my last class with Professor Ashburn...and that was sad. We've all had a blast in that class, you wouldn't have even thought it was a real class...I'm so sad that its practically over. Of course, we have to get together for the test....but that's not the same. I wanna see if maybe we can all go out afterward. Haha, they went out for drinks after the moot court, but I still had the headache from Rockycon, and I really didn't want to add to it.
Oh, and I gave Prof. Ashburn an invite to my graduation...I don't think he's ever gotten one of those from one of his students before. Don't know if he'll show up or not (I will so cry if he does) but still, I gave it to him. Him and the group have kinda taken me under their wing as a little prodgeny..."molding me into a political science monger" as one of them said. Hahaha...they've managed. I'm hooked.
And to think, if I could talk to me from my sophomore year, little, pessimistic, I hate government in any form, me, who would've thought that I'd be planning on going into law? The way things end up sometimes.
GRADUATION:
This subject, well, its different for me. Most of the other people who are graduating...they're emotional about it. I could care less. Probably where I've been so detatched from the school, but still, I'm not really feeling one way or the other about it. Yes, it's nice to be finished, yes, it's nice to move on, but really, the cerimony doesn't have any special meaning to me.
Family's coming in, and that's nice, but I'm not sure how they'll expect me to act. Do they expect me to be overjoyed? Because I'm not going to be. Except maybe at the thought to get to go eat at the Olive Garden. Olive Garden is love. Though, having fifteen people with me, is not. Mehhh.
GENERAL PROCRASTINATION:
My classes are all going well, except for my little habit of waiting til the last minute to do things. Oh, the joy of procrastination. Sign lanugage was okay, I managed to do my presentation (though Eleanor Rigby seems a very fast song when you're nervous). But it all turned out okay, I guess....hope I didn't end up spelling 'eleanor' 'elanro' again. I've done that before when I was practising. Oh well, can't change it now.
English class is....god awful boring. Hamlet could be taught in a little bit more interesting way, instead of him reading every single part in just a slightly different voice. Its a play...why not let the students help read? I don't know. As long as I pass the class...I'm fine.
WRITING:
The muse has returned. I've been writing a lot, almost constantly over various things, and I've actually gotten an idea for a story of my own that I had shelved *time to get out yWriter again!* I'm happy to have ideas for that story again, it was a good one. ON TO CHAPTER FIVE! :D
Fan fics, aren't coming so well, actually. I was ficcing away happily on one, then got sideswiped by that idea for my story, and I haven't been able to get the fanfic plots to return. That's fine though...I'd rather work on original fiction right now, anyways. *WOOT FOR ORIGINAL WORK*
Hopefully, by the time that NanoWrimo comes around next year, I'll have enough of a novel started that I can finish it up with that. Dunno, will have to dust off yWriter tonight.
The Plot bunnies awake...
Yes, this is what I'm saying.
Sami is ficcing.
For the first time in ages, Sami has the creative juices bubbling again, and is in the process of re-working an old fic of hers for publication on here.
Watch out for lightning strikes, my friends...Sami has picked up her pen again.
Short entry, yes, but I felt that I just had to announce this.
Public We Are Rocky Entry.
Okay, for my friends who have read the private entry, this is just some pictures from the weekend, basically.
The Invitation presented to us by Swan when we came to see Phantom of the Paradise...I love this movie now, it's amazing. I had to darken the picture a lot to make it so it can be read on the computer, but it still gets the point across. I would put up some more pictures from Phantom, but until I get hold of the DVD, I can't really find any pictures from the film other than lots of pictures of Phoenix and Winslow, and a scattered few of Swan. Maybe I'll put some up. Maybe, if I get creative, I'll make some icons.
Maybe.
And, then of course, is my pride and joy, my Convention badge. It's a beautiful thing.
none
It was an amazing weekend...my head still kinda hurts, and my feet definitely do, but god, I met some amazing people, and saw an amazing film, so this is going to be in my memories for a long time.
Freedom at last!
LIBERATED.
My paper is finally done...so I'm free.
Sort of. I still have all the worries of my oral arguments, but at least I know that my paper research is done.
I'm tempted to post it on here, and scare all you people....(not that anyone reads this thing) with the vast ramblings in legal term that I had to do for my court case.
Perhaps...
Can't wait to go to Rockypalooza this weekend. Hopefully it'll all work out.
I just don't like myself right now...
I'm so frustrated. School sucks...graduation pressures are getting more and more and more every day...I don't know how much more I can handle.
I just turned down a 'high honors' banquet invitation to go to the Rocky Palooza, but honestly, I made a decision for myself for once, and it feels good. Lately, I haven't done a damn thing for myself. I've been doing what everyone else tells me to do, mainly because I don't care one way or the other about Graduating, and because of that, I'm stretched in *SO* many different directions... I can't take it.
Oh well. I'll survive.
T-minus two days to finish my Law Paper. T-minus seven days to prepare my arguments.
T-minus three days until I have a nervous breakdown.
Please schedule all nervous breakdowns at least 24 hours in advance...
Thank you.
